Compiled by band member Stan Cullimore, \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcLive at the BBC\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 is a wonderful retrospective of The Housemartins\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 recordings for the BBC.
\n<\/span>The Housemartins, the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153fourth best band in Hull\u00e2\u20ac\u009d and the only one to begat both the Beautiful South and Fat Boy Slim,\u00c2\u00a0 were regular visitors to the BBC’s Maida Vale studios, recording seven sessions there as well as having their Glastonbury and Nottingham concerts broadcast. This album contains most of the material recorded for the BBC from the very beginning to the very the end of the band’s brief but brilliant career. It’s a superb snapshot of a group of artists doing what they do best with a minimum of fuss.
\n<\/span>This is the first time that most of these recordings have been available, and for many die hard fans it’s the missing piece of the puzzle. There are songs here that never made it onto record or CD, as well as a generous chunk of a classic 1987 live set recorded in Nottingham, and a couple of numbers from their near-legendary Glastonbury performance of 1986
\n<\/span>And as Phill Jupitus, who as \u00e2\u20ac\u02dcPorky The Poet\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 frequently supported the group on the road, points out in the sleeve notes, they were at least the second best band in Hull!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
